    Hi

Has anyone bought this and playing it

I got it and its a really nice game, similar to Age of Kings, but you go through all ages starting at Ancient to Information age

The thing that I like about it is the on-line Internet game playing as you can then play other people, or play in teams against teams

Until my home PC died, I was playing RoN exclusively. Brilliant game. I haven't tried online yet, but I've played a few really good LAN games.

The third patch is going to have a public Beta, because they are introducing some balance issues. The game seems pretty well balanced to me, but I trust Big Huge Games. Brian and company really know what they are doing.

It's one of my current faves as well. I've not played on line though yet.

I've played it, a lot, for the last about 2 weeks - but it's just paled on me. Don't know if I'll play it again.

Reasons - well, the Campaign game got abandoned when it told me there were only 3 moves left i.e. there's a time limit & it's impossible to conquer the entire world, as far as I can see. The random game is more open ended, but not good enough to keep my interest.

You know, this is where internet gaming comes into it

You never get fed up playing another human

And the allied option on multi-player is real fun - you can attack with your ally and help him out in battles

I have ISDN and the internet option works really well. I have been playing people in the USA and there has been no problems at all

I think online play is the same as LAN play, just a single multi-player game. But the beauty of Rise of Nations is that by tweaking the settings, you can either play a fast and furious quick game, or a slow extended game that will take hours.

Even at the slowest speed, multi-player gets incredibly hectic in the late game, and is a great workout for the old brain. :)

I've only played it single user but have found that the tweaks etc are brilliant for giving you different gameplay

Not only that, if you check out Apolyton, you can track down some modable files to adjust the gameplay even more. Most commonly, you can adjust the research/upgrade costs to customize the game even more.
