Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL owners have been given an opportunity to use their handheld console to film a sequence less than one minute long, with the themes of ‘British Summer 2012’, imaginative content and 'clever use of the 3D technology' key.

The winner will be given an opportunity to create their own short 3D film alongide a professional film crew and high profile mentors Stuart Warren-Hill and Asif Kapadia which will be premiered at the 56th BFI London Film Festival.

Vision in 3D competition Figurehead Ridley Scott says: "Digital and 3D filmmaking is within the grasp of everyone these days. I'm excited by all the skill and talent that's emerging in the UK, telling stories in different ways and it's vital that it gets our support. This competition launched by the BFI and Nintendo opens up a big opportunity for emerging filmmakers to make their mark and they should grab it with both hands. I can't wait to see the results."

Short films should be uploaded online before the competition deadline of Sunday 2nd September 2012.

In addition to the main prize there will also be 3 runner up prizes of a pair of tickets to attend a screening at the 56th BFI London Film Festival plus a BFI Membership for one year. The winner and runners up will be announced in early September and the 3D film shoot will take place in London soon after.
