I may have been cheeky and asked for them to throw in a cable of some sort, but at least they didn't try to fob you off saying it was new...PJ

if they said new for £40, then a factory repack shoulda been cheaper cuz it aint new.....shoulda got a tenner off or a cable chucked in....

fairy nuff its cheap anyhow for what you get, but its the principle, if they wanna deliver less than what they advertise they should take less money for it.....(i work in advertising, and i hate it when companies pull fast ones...)

Doesn't the 4805 downscale it to 480?

It sure does. you won't get 576 lines out of that projector no matter how hard you try.

    if i use pal reg 2 disc it's 576p
if i use re 1 disc ntsc it says 480p
    the manual confirms this
    :) :) :)

Yep, the input is 576 lines for PAL and 480 lines for NTSC but the 4805's res is 480 line I believe. Don't worry, as you say it looks great...PJ :)

so if i use a hdmi player with a hdmi-dvi lead this would not make any difference
as the 4805 is only 480 lines anyway?

You may get a benefit because DVI/HDMI avoids the need for digital->analogue->digital conversion stages - but the difference may be little if anything vs a decent component player and it may actually not be as good.

But upscaling would be a waste of time because your display would simply downscale it again...PJ

    i e-mailed richers
    with this
    hi
yesterday i went to purchase a toshiba dvd the sd 240e
as advertised on your website brand new boxed for £39.95
i was told by the store they only had factory repacks
i was charged the same price of £39.95
with no offer of a discount,
i wondered if this is a common policy
    of richer sounds

    and the reply
Thank you for contacting Richer Sounds and please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused as this is certainly not our usual level of service.
I believe the brand new versions are back in stock now.
Please contact your local store to reserve one and my colleagues will be happy to exchange this for you.
Alternatively please let me know which store you purchased from so I can reserve the unit for you.
Again please accept my sincere apologies.
i have just replied with this
my wife just spoke to the shop in question chester branch
to see if they had any new stock they said they only had ex repair models then offered her this for £35
£5 cheaper than i paid for a ex repair yesterday
i know its only £5 but i feel a bit cheated
if you look through your records at my old address
********** ******* ******you will see i have spent £1000's of pounds at your liverpool and chester branches
i expect to be treated better than this
    i await the reply
it's not the money it's the principal

I fail to see why you complained about this. They informed you that the unit was a factory repack, and you should still receive a one year guarantee. They didn't con you and didn't force you to buy the unit.

just unusual not to be offered a discount
but the next day the wife is,
the reason i bought the unit was because it took me a while to reach the store
and i did not want the journey again
i do know that no-one forced me to buy the unit
i just thought it a bit underhand to say they had new stock on website and phone
only to be told at the store they had repacks only.
i hope this is clear enough to you.

if they told you on phone that they had brand new, then you should definitely have received discount when you turned up and only repack there......

on the website or their mag ads they always say call the store first to ensure they have some, if u dont call and turn up its your bad...but if you call, just leave your name and they will hold it for a few hours for you........if you then turn up and they try and fob you off with a repack they have broken the law as they told you they have a brand new one at a price over the phone, then when you get there they give you a secondhand one (doesnt matter if its repack, it still isnt brand new goods). Trying to remember what its called now......damn words not coming to me......something like misinformation, but not...lol....(i blame the wine..heh)

i'm sober now and i still cant remember the damn word...lol

basically they are luring someone in by saying its new to them, then saying its not new when they get there.......ok, advertised stock will have get out clauses available to use, but if on a phone call they say its in stock then you turn up and it isnt then that is purposefully misleading, they just want you to take their b-grade stock off their hands.....

its like those Car advertising companies that call you up touting business when they see your car advertised in Loot or Autotrader, they say 'oh yeah, we got buyers waiting for your car, all you need to do is sign up and pay the money and we will forward your details to them'.......so you hand over the money (quite often £80 or £100!!!) and of course bugger all happens, they just mail lists of cars to all the people on their list....its not matched or anything, except they make it sound like it is matched (as in like a dating agency matches people to people, they reckon they do people to cars).........there are 4 main companies that do this, 3 of which are still being investigated by Trading Standards....heh..hope they stop the gits....
