Conversation in Richer Sounds Bishopsgate on Friday with manager:

Me: Do you sell DVD recorders?
Mgr: Yes, we stock the two main ones, both Philips machines
Me: What about the Panasonic ones?
Mgr: well, we're waiting until they get their formats sorted out
Me: How do you mean? It's Philips that have broken away with their own format.
Mgr: Well, that may be, but history shows the cheaper format is the one that will win; look at Betamax
Me: But I've seen dvd minus r discs for 49p on the Net
Mgr: Well, the Philips ones will come down in price
Me: But the Panasonic is streets ahead in functionality
Mgr: Well, Philips have given us an amazing sale or return deal on their machines, so that's what we stock.
    Me: Okay, cheers anyway...

Wonder if Panasonic are ever going to pull their fingers out and try some marketing...?

    Sale or return? No chance!

We sell as many Philips DVD recorders as we can lay our hands on, several thousand to date. There's no way we would be returning them, even if we could.

The Panasonic is not currently stocked due to lack of customer demand, pure and simple. If that changes, I'll be very happy to sell the DMRE30.

    Hope that clears things up.

I'm glad to see your comments, but they hardly clear things up.

I asked for the Panasonic in the store, and was told you wouldn't be selling it until they sorted out their formats.

You are only offering one type of player, and your staff are only making one recommendation, totally dismissing any other machines. This would make it a little hard to gauge accurate customer demand, and doesn't excuse the mis-information given.
