Well the clock has run down on Richard Whitley.
You were unique
What a shame.
I will miss his garish ties and general good humour.
What, that Countdown guy?
Didn't even know he was ill?
bless him and his ties
What a shock - everybody was saying that he was on the road to recovery from pneumonia - he'll be much missed, especially by ferrets!
I never even knew he was that ill
He apparently had a heart operation last week.
According to todays paper,he died during a heart operation. He will be sadly missed.A true one off ,amongst many average joes on television.
yeah, countdown was an underrated classic, i was always crap at it but it was still fun to watch. old stripey suit will be missed.
he will be...i was genunely upset when i heard the news....i shall miss his dreadful jokes and ties
I was shocked to hear it too. He always seemed too nice for such a cutthroat business. He will be missed.
I grew up watching the likes of him and Austin Mitchell on the local news program Calendar and was watching live that evening with the ferret. My parents went to see Countdown last year and remarked what a nice man he was, he made the effort to talk to a lot of the audience before the show (totally different attitude to Carol Vorderman). He wasn't the greatest talent in the World, but he was genuine and sincere.
