Hi, I'm looking to connect the RGB scart output from my Netgem I-player Freeview box to a Samsung 17" widescreen LCD TFT monitor.

Looking around I see plenty of products suitable for connecting an RGB source to the D-sub connection on a plasma screen but the descriptions either do not mention TFT screens or are very sketchy about them.

Anyone know of an affordable (and suitable) solution?

Difficult one. None of the plasma devices will work, they do not change the horizontal sync. frequency. The pro-v should work, and can accept a s-video signal from the netgem. Results are variable, I've tried one and found it to give an image not far off monochrome, but it might have just not liked my monitor. there are numerous competing devices now, maybe you need to find a shop with a few in, and try them.

    Thanks for replies guys.
Have just about picked myself off the floor after seeing price of that Brightview scaler!

For some reason I had hoped the solution would be far cheaper.
Dabs are doing relatively cheap 18.1" TFTs now with an optional bolt-on TV tuner which accepts additional video inputs. Seems like this is a much cheaper alternative!

cheaper and the quality will suck. Believe me I tried all
of these options and a scaler was really the only quality way of doing this conversion.

    Ok Neil,

In that case I'll stick with the current portable and scout around for somewhere to demo my various options.
