I am having a specific connection problem, every advice is most welcome. The home cinema setup is made of Sony DAV-LF1 home cinema set with the only output being RGB SCART, and a Sony VPL-HS50 LCD projector. The projector has, among composite, S-video, component and HDMI, a 15pin D-sub input marked as "Input-A". In the setup menu is an option for changing the Input-A format: computer, component, video GBR or Auto. For obvious reasons, I don't won't to stick to composite transfer, so I tried to make a cable which take in the R, G and B outputs for SCART socket and goes directly into a 15pin D-sub connector. I am surely missing one cable since there is no picture on any of the options in the menu. Does anyone know which pins on SCART socket should I use, and to which pins on D-sub should I connect them to? Thanks In Advance!
I'm interested in this solution as well. I take it you have wired up the Red, Green and Blue ground pins as well as the signal pins. I think you also need a sync signal. This is sometimes derived from the composite signal, othertimes it is included in the green signal. The keene.co.uk website has a scart to vga cable for sharp projectors: it also shows the pinouts. Not sure if this would work for the sony though.
I finally plucked up the courage and tried this myself. The following pinouts will allow a SCART RGB signal to produce a picture on the Sony HS50 via the VGA D-Sub (Input A) connector. Signal - Scart Pin - VGA Pin Blue Screen - 5 - 8 Blue Signal - 7 - 3 Green Screen - 9 - 7 Green Signal - 11 - 2 Red Screen - 13 - 6 Red Signal - 15 - 1 Composite Screen - 17 - 5 Composite Signal - 19 - 13 The composite signal is important. The sync signal is derived from this. Without the sync you get no picture! A well made cable should negate the need to use expensive converter boxes.
