What is the difference between an entry level QED scart cable and an RGB one like this:

    http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/productdetailsnew.asp?modelcode=QED-AV4110

    ?

Why is it 'no audio transmission'. Basically can I still get RGB through a decent quality scart without it having to be 'specialised' like this?

Apologies to Groundy (who's been a great help) for re-iterating myself!

    Thanks!

if you are linking your player to an amp (optical out etc) then removing the sound signal from the scart cable means less chance of signal interference as just the video is using the cable.

Cheers mate - no I'm not linking it to an amp at the moment. So will a good quality QED scart allow me RGB output then?

That ad is contradition- it says FULLY WIRED SCART and then UNUSED CONNECTORS REMOVED.

Fully wired SCART is with audio and video.

    Which one is correct?

Yes a good quality QED scart lead will give you an RGB picture, like MattDX says, the specialist RGB lead has had the sound wires removed to reduce any interference.

The other QED leads are 'fully wired' so don't worry, as any of the QED scart leads will give you RGB...so will ixos which are slightly cheaper. ;)

Don't rule out monster cable - they rock. Also the thor cable has had A+ reviews and is very reasonably priced.

Where can you buy these Monster scarts?

They don't seem to be very popular with uk online retailers- hence I haven't seen one on sale yet:confused:

Strangely enough the best selection of monster cables I've seen is in Currys. They seem to be pushing the monsters big time.

I buy all my cables through Ebay.

    Got a 1M QED RGB for £27 and a Monster2 S-video to Scart for £10.

Typical price for QED Fully wired is around £32 so quite a good saving there

OK - so someone is now making money selling SCARTS with no audio signals...

But has anybody on the planet actually seen audio signals degrading the picture quality?

Bearing in mind that the whole purpose of SCARTs is to give a one cable solution to connections and they were carefully designed that way to include audio.

The Emperor's new clothes come to mind!

I've always believed that if your dvd player is in the sub £200 bracket, then a scart costing £15 is not going to give you any less of a detailed noise free picture than one costing twice/three times as much.

I have a Lektropacks home cinema scart, (HCSL14) found here http://www.lektropacks.co.uk/dept.asp?dept_id=203 and an Ixos 126 scart lead, and damned if I can see any difference in pic quality. Both give excellent RGB pictures. :p :D

Glad to hear you got sorted - I forgot to reply to your other thread .

Some good recommendations here but if you want my recommendations they are:

    1. QED Fully Wired Sqart (AV21) from Sky to Loewe AV2
    2. QED RCA Component to Scart (AV29) from DVD player to Loewe AV3. Set Loewe AV3 to YUV, sync on Y.

Is it worth spending £50 on the AV29 for a £200 DVD Player? Probably not but you are buying a high-end TV and you won't have the £200 DVD Player forever. You will likely move to a higher-end DVD player in the forseeable future.

    OR

    2. QED Fully Wired Sqart (AV21) from DVD player to Loewe AV3. Set Loewe AV3 to RGB.

As mentioned, there really isn't much difference, if any between RGB and Component on the Loewe.

I recommend HiFi Cables for all of the above. Buy 1m versions if that is all you need.

    3. Cheapo standard Scart Cable from VCR to AV1 on the Vitros. Buy a gold-plated oxy-free one if it makes you feel better. Don't sepnd any more than £10 on this.

    4. Same as 3. for Digibox to VCR.

    Hope this helps :).
