I have just ordered a Sony klv-l32m1 LCD TV and wanted to know what the best connections would be to squeak the best out of it. It will be connected to a Philips DVDR70 DVD recorder and NTL pace stb using a Sony STR-VE250 5.1 Digital Amplifier.

I think component from dvdr to the TV. RGB scart from stb to TV. The only query I have with this is if I use a RGB only scart which only carries picture, how would I get sound to the DVDR if I was to record from the stb. Am I missing something really obvious?

    Thanks

There are Scarts that take the audio out (stereo L&R) from the connector/cable, i.e. there will be two leads that terminate into RCA/phono connectors, which you can then connect to the amplifier. Like this one here:

SCART with Switch to SCART and 2 x Phono

I wouldn't bother with an expensive RGB scart anyway as there is a huge difference in PQ between the top quality of a DVD and the lesser quality of Sky or Cable. A decent fully screened scart cable should suffice.

Sounds like your getting in a bit of a jumble :)

    01. Digibox to DVD-R:
You have two choices - use a decent quality fully wired SCART cable to transmit RGB Video Plus Stereo Audio or use a dedicated RGB+Stereo audio only SCART cable; SUPRA AV6.4 being one option we use/supply.

    02. DVD-R to LCD TV:
YUV to YUV for Video only.

    03. DVD-R to AV Receiver:
    A simple 2RCA to 2RCA for Stereo.

If you want the ability to use the loudspeakers on the TV your going to have to hook a second Audio Output from the DVD-R to the Stereo audio Inputs on the TV.

    Best regards

    Joe

PS I'm assuming your Digibox doesn't have a 5:1 audio output!

Thanks everybody for getting back so quickly. I think I'll settle for a fully wired scart for now that carries both. And see what the pq is like.

Joe, I forgot to mention the DVDR has an optical and so does the amp, would I do better with this or stick to the phonos for sound?

    Thanks again.

Or use this as it still allows an RGB quality picture and simply breaks out the audio, which you can then hook up to an AV amp.

Use the optical connection so you can listen to DD/DTS soundtracks.
