Has anyone used the: RGB in (via scart) /Component in, on Philips DVDR recorders

I have read in a german magazine (video 12/2002) that they(scart-rgb in) are not that good (picture is soft and dimm) and that the s-vhs input is better
(tested are the dvdr 880 and the dvdr 1000 mk2)

In AVS forum people also have made negative comments on the
    component inputs of this recorder

I want to record from satellite in the highest qualilty and i am
considering to buy a RGB to component converter (i need this
because a have a asia/pacific version of the Philips dvdr890,
with the faroudja chip on board and with component inputs)

I know that i will lose some quality with the rgb to component conversion but if the quality of the component inputs is not that good it makes no sense to buy such a expensive converter

Should i recorded s-vhs or should i record component (and buy a
    expensive converter)
