I have found out that I can input RGB and sync on composite into the 400E.

    Which is best:-

    1. RGB scart to 4 RCA (RGB and sync on composite)

    2. RGB scart to YUV convertor?

The first option is by far the cheapest and without further understanding should be better? It hav less leads in the system and no conversion. However is YUV better? and if so is it still better if it is just converting from RGB?

    What's your opions?

    Cheers

id say it would be better to go the yuv road, composite will degrade the rgb signal whereas yuv should not.

personaly i avoid composite like the plauge.
i switch my stuff via the amp with component out and it gives a better pic than using the composit out.

    Hope that helps

The composite is just used to extract the sync pulses from, RGB is sent to the component input of the plasma.

    How good is RGB?

Is it better to convert to YUV even if you have a RGB input?

RGB is the best sgnal from the sky box. I use the scart to 4 rca comp. on sync with a 50 inch plasma and the PQ is first class.

See my post in the thread 'RGB to Component losing sync!' - I tried both methods of connection with my Hitachi 42PMA400

Anyone want to buy a JSRGB2Component converter?!

Less conversion must be better. With DVD players with a choice of YUV or RGB it's not so clear cut, as you have progressive scan and it's ups and downs to account for. In my experience, the PMA400 is better with RGB, it doesn't do so well with YUV progressive. Gandley, harvey is spot on, but of course we all agree that composite as a video signal is a last resort, and used only to get the menu up and enable RGB and 16:9 aspect.
