I was thinking to myself the other day, now that we have been blessed with a graphics powerhouse that is the PS3, it would really be good if we could revisit old games and franchises.

Look at Lord of the rings. Stunning film work, but the games on PS2, while they had good gameplay, they lacked the graphical oomph that made you feel like you was there. I mean, can you imagine a really good middle earth on PS3.

However, the films are finished. So the games could be too.

Anyone think we should revisit old franchises?, and if so, what franchises would you like to see?

    Dont remember that one.

I remember there was a gladiator roman game on PS2 that was quite good. I would like to see Rome rendered in high-def on PS3 (alongside a good game to boot).

I dont know why they cant try to port some PC games over like Medieval 2:TW or some of the sim cities.

I love graphics and I would really like to the developers really flex the PS3's muscles with things such as this.

Gameplay obviously helps but it's like a beautiful woman. There may be nothing upstairs, but it sure is great to look at and you'd spend dough trying to get into it (if you catch my drift).

Its not exactly an old game but is my favourite game, Kingdom Hearts, it does already look colourful and disneyesque but with the graphics the PS3 can create the worlds could be made more life like, the trailer for KH 3 looks amazing and hopefully the graphics will be like that, maybe we could see KH remix or something on the Ps3 with the upgraded graphics, that would probably make my month/year.

I quite liked the first Syphon Filter but thought the other ones were below par. Two franchises I would like to see are:

    Freedom Fighters
    Zone of the Enders

Also as a wildcard due to the fact that it had the most daring music selection in any game I have ever played:

    Shaun Murray's Wakeboarding Unleashed

The only problems with that, is that the PCs you play that game on will generally be more powerful than the PS3 already! I doubt the PS3 would cope as well with that type of game.

In terms of direct remakes, I would like to see a FF7 and FF:Tactics remake.

Elite needs to be remade, forget all the rubbish that came in Frontiers and trying to make it overly complex, just get back to basics.

X-Wing vs Tie Fighter series, that would look simply awesome these days!

G-Police would be quite cool as well as Syndicate. Syndicate in a GTA style, that would be awesome!!!! The persuadertron is still one of the best weapons in any game.

    UN Squadron and Geoman/Mystical Ninja.

Shadowrun, as in the old skool RPG not the new FPS botch.

    X:Com/Laser squad.

I think I could go on for a long time :p

Zone Of The Enders 2 was amazing. I recently went to revisit it (via Ebay) and was shocked to find it more expensive than when I bought it!

The presentation of MGS2 with the pace and excitement that something like Armoured Core 4 is TOTALLY lacking in.

I would hope that with Kojima spending so much time on a wonderful engine for MGS4, he'd transfer this to ZOE again.

As expected, I'm someone who would gladly see Final Fantasy 7 & 8 remade with graphical grunt. I can happily munch through that story over and over for the sheer love of it.

Oh and RE Syphon Filter... from what I gather from reviews, it was the darling of PS1, but the transition to PS2 wasn't so hot. On PSP its ace though!

How about going right back to the old school and digging out past Amiga faves!

Team 17 stuff like Project X
    Turrican
Microcosm could REALLY be picked up again. What a huge disappointment that was, but its ripe for doing with todays grunt!

There are loads of games I'd like to see on the PS3.

    MicroMachines (PC)
    Stunt Car Racer (Amiga/ST)
    V Rally (PS1)
    Syndicate (Amiga)
    Hostages (Amiga/ST)

You've just proved that gameplay will always win over graphics. Stunning graphics are only good if you have the gameplay to match, Lemmings is a brilliant game and doesnt need to look amazing, in fact when they tried it with Lemmings 3D it flopped.

    FF7 would be absolutely killer...

Tenchu could be a good one. I agree wholeheartedly with the Syndicate Wars suggestion though, that game was awesome! I wouldn't mind seeing an SSX game in HD either...

Though I'm generally not a big fan of sequels which end up being "the same thing, but better looking", Resident Evil and MGS: The Twin Snakes on the GameCube were excellent examples of how (nearly identical) remakes on a more powerful system can really add quality to the games. Both also offered small additions in functionality/abilities which diversified the gameplay without changing the balance or structure, and utilised the better available graphics to excellent effect.

RE in particular was one of the best games on the system, and the graphic overhaul with high quality textures, lighting and foliage gave it much more atmosphere - esssential for that type of game.

I'd love to see a remake of RE2, RE3 and Code Verionica; Bard's Tale; Half Life; Duke Nukem 3D; plus as others have said, Elite; and X-wing series.

...but that doesn't mean all would make good games nowadays. The gameplay of Elite, for example, is very samey.

    Twin Snakes was excellent.

The more I think about it, I would love to see Microcosm realised. The idea for it was great, the technology was just woefully behind the times.

A 3D shooter, flying through the human body to destroy a terrorist virus.

As it is a case of gameplay over graphics why not FF7,8 & 9 (with some jazzed up FMV) slapped on a Blu-Ray together. I`m sure fans of the franchise would be more than happy to pay a few quid extra for that little package.

    And Syndicate Wars?

Nights into Dreams, Burning Rangers and Panzer Dragoon from the Saturn could all be awesome in 1080p! Nights is Wii bound I think but would be better in full hd :)

good thread. id like a new road rash game, maybe a new theme park but somehow set out in a different way.

most of all i think a new speedball game would be awesome if they could make it really brutal.

Off topic slightly, but a lot of people keep mentioning syphon filter. Just to let you know, if you have'nt got it any more, the US PSN store has it for download for about 3 quid. Plays on PSP as well.

Nice bit of nostalgia for you.

In regards to Syndicate wars: Quote from Peter Molyneux, head of Bullfrog:-

    Future sequels:
In a 2006 interview at the Leipzig Games Convention for Gamespot, Peter Molyneux said that he would like to revisit some of his old efforts, but adds that it is very unlikely that will happen. But Molyneux makes one possible exception: "Aside from the licensing complications, some sort of next-gen online version of Syndicate would certainly be popular with gamers."[2]

May well happen, but only online.
