Are the any reviews of the above Phillips player
Yeah, there was one in last month's HiFi World and they rated it very highly (and they're not easily impressed with DVD players). They went as far as to say that it justified the £400 list price as a CD player alone - high praise indeed.
From memory (I didn't buy the mag) they also rated it's DVD and SACD performance pretty highly.
So, sounds like a cracking player - the only issue is that there is talk of a 963SA (with progressive scan) due out in a few months time - talk about shooting yourself in the foot - Philips have a great player in the 962SA but who's gonna buy it if it's going to be obsolete in a few months time?
See this thread on AVS Forums for lot's of info:-
In fact search AVS Forum for 962SA and you'll find loads of info
I thought the 962SA HAD prog scan as standard. Am I incorrect?
I think the difference between the 2 is the 962sa with the progressive scan chip isnt available in europe, when they open the lid of one purchased in europe it is missing off the circuit board.
Thats why to get pal prog scan you have to import the 962 via hk. The 963 should have this chip even when its released in europe.
The irony is that these players are made in hungary, shipped to asia and then re-imported back to europe which of course will really slap on the $$$.
Hopefully the 963 will be available locally. Seems to be alot riding on the release of this player, I will be 1st in line....
When will the Philips DVD963SA be released?
I take it the Tosh 510 does not have Prog scan then. Sory for the dumb questions
510 progressive output only for ntsc not pal.
for pal output your back to interlaced component - disappointingly
and you also can't opt to display your pal discs in ntsc format either.
