I´m still ,5 years myself down the DVD road amazed reading some DVD reviews.
It is the aspect ratio wich seems to confuse them most.
The reviewer doesn´t know the aspect ratio (good sample Tarzan the animated one, check it out here:http://www.dvd-basen.dk/uk/home.php3?search=tarzan&mvis=ok&region=%&land=%&ok=go)
Most of them read on the back cover, Aah yes 1,66:1 ok i´ll put that in my review,When it is clearly 1,78:1:mad:
It is just frustrating to see these errors time and time again.
I had to blow off some steam on this issue
    Anyway have a great weekend

    Cheers

I wouldn't say it was up to the reviewers to check against everything that is written on the box. The box should be correct in the first place. To tell the difference between 1.66 and 1.78 you need a very well set up tv (Not really practical for most) or check it on a pc.

I'm amazed by what gets written on the box sometimes.
    I've seen:
    Animorphic
    16:9 (on a 1.66 letterbox disc)
Digital Sound requires a dts decoder
and these people get paid for this!?

btw Currys are currently selling a standalone dvd player with NICAM!

I do my best to get it right, but sometimes the packaging is misleading and i always put the discs i review through the pc which gives the best indication what the aspect ratio is.

The Disney Tarzan is indeed 1.66:1, not 1.78:1. It in usually just overscan on your display that makes it appear 1.78:1. Before I had my display ISF calibrated I thought Tarzan looked 1.78, but after calibration I now have very small black bars on either side of the screen.

There is some fun to be had in dixons, currys, even sony centres if you ask them about dts, component, optical leads etc. etc! Its no wonder 90% of the population know sod all about anything digggital :)
