      As someone who uses the fingerprint sensor on their iPhone as the exclusive unlock method (not to mention for Apple Pay), the poor placement of the sensor is actually a deal breaker for me. It's a pity, as otherwise the S8 is exactly the sort of shiny that would have had me back on 'Droid.

      Do smartphones have 60Hz refresh rate or 120Hz?

      It is nice , and nice price to match. Will wait and see what deals come up on the S7 edge first as my old s5 is ( almost ) still good....ish

      The feature list is insane for this phone, 99% not listed in the review, so readers will have to look on Youtube for those features.

      Here's a great hidden feature. The fingerprint sensor on the back can be turned on to access the notification menu. Just slide down over the sensor and the menu bar slides down. This needs to be manually turned on though. Saves you from having to reach all the way to the top to pull it down.

      The link at the bottom of the review pointing to the S8 specifications opens the Sony Xperia XZ specifications.

      S8 is stunning design & build quality. Good job we all like different things, but I know which ones going to sell the most.

      I just wrote a review and it disappeared into the ether when I clicked on the wrong bit of screen. I can't find it anywhere! Please fix it, AVF!

      I've just migrated from a Lumia 950XL. The migration was horrible. Contacts are easy. Messages are a nightmare. I love the Windows ecosystem. I hated the Android ecosystem five years ago, which is why I switched. Android has improved a lot in those five years and I think I'll be able to live with it.

      The hardware is gorgeous. Gorgeous to look at and lovely to feel.

      The 950XL has a larger footprint (by 201 sq mm). The S8+ has a screen that's half an inch bigger (and 576,000 more pixels). The pixels are about the same size. The S8+ goes brighter. The screen of the S8+ occupies 84% of the area. The 950XL screen occupies only 74%. They're both the same thickness but the S8+ feels slimmer because it's rounded and smooth.

      Lessons learnt: Don't spend £35 on Wondershare MobileTrans. That was £35 completely wasted. Do spend £1.90 on VMG Converter to import Windows SMS and MMS messages. Do transfer contacts through outlook.com and google.

      I hate changing cars and operating systems the way some people hate changing handbags. I hope to stay with Android for a long time now that it's half decent but I'll miss the Windows home screen a lot. If I can get a button that opens Outlook calendar with a single click I'll be very happy.

      Sorry to hear that. Have sometimes found draft posts remain in draft form in the text box. For long posts using a separate note or word document app / program is best to prevent web browser loss

      Those looking for a much cheaper option might consider the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017). Its got most of the features, and appearance on of the S7. It has the fingerprint sensor on the front and a 16mega pixel camera both on the front and rear. Its also water/dust proof like the S8. I've had one for a while now and it performs fast and faultlessly and this will improve when Nougat is released for it shortly. I'm not sure if the larger screen version is to be released in the UK.

      @BrianC1 ,

      You can transfer almost everything from your old phone using the free Samsung SmartSwitch App. (Says S7 in the text but it has been updated for the S8

      Details here.

      John.

      EDIT:- Looks like they've broken the links for Windows / Mac. :blush: but you can find the phone apps in their relevant app stores. :)

      Is there a way of fixing this link?
      MORE: Samsung Galaxy S8 Specifications and
      It opens the Sony Xperia XZ Specifications not the Galaxy S8

      @Har-One ,

      I'm sure they can fix the link - but for anyone looking for the specs just click on the Specs tab at the bottom or top of this page. :)

      Looks very nice, but agree that (even if the price was acceptable to me... which it is't) the finger print sensor placement is an instant dismissal.

      Lovely screen to bezel ratio though, and if Apple can replicate that design goal and keep the finger print sensor on the front I might be back in camp iOS this year.

      Otherwise, I'll be looking forward to the next (much cheaper) OnePlus device and the incredibly useful Dash Charging capability.

      @Jules ,

      Don't forget that this phone features an Iris scanner, so you only have to look at it to unlock it. No need to grovel around the back for the finger print sensor!

      I like to unlock my phone on my computer desk with my finger. In this situation the phone is off to one side so the iris scanner wouldn't work.

      Can't you just set that location as a safe location so you can just unlock it with the button on the side?

      Does the Iris scanner or pattern unlock work for Android Pay?

      Pattern Unlock certainly works. The Android Pay blurb says:-
      • For low value payments, currently up to £30, when you wake up your device’s screen and present it to the contactless terminal to authorise the payment, for extra security you’ll occasionally be asked to unlock your device again.
      • All high value payments over £30 require the device to have been unlocked using authentication from the account holder via the fingerprint sensor, your PIN, password or pattern for each transaction.
      Since the authentication is provided by using the unlocking method you have set up for your phone, I can't see any reason why Iris Scan wont work.

      I've got the s7 edge which is marvellous. Before that I had the s6 edge plus. It packed it just after Xmas and I got a brand new s7 edge on my insurance.
      I'll definitely be getting the s8 plus ASAP. I have insurance that will buy out the remainder of my contract so then I'll get the new phone.
      I have no idea why people buy iPhones as they are so far behind samsungs elite range.
      My mate has the top new iPhone, I can't remember it's name. I've compared video playback on my phone and his and the iPhone is light years behind my phone. I don't even think it's as good as my old note 3.
      Ill definitely be getting the 8plus and I'll get a very good price for my 7edge.

      The M8 was a great phone except for the camera. Ultra pixel never really done it for me. But it's a lovely looking phone to this day.
