I want to run a cat5e cable from one room to another on the outside wall of the house. At the moment my virgin cable internet comes into a room at the front of the house where I have a desk and my PC, next to the cable socket is a virgin phone socket which is unused as we use BT for that.
What I thought about doing is reusing this phone socket for a network point. I thought maybe I could replace the faceplate and cut the phone wiring back to the external box. I could possibly even run the cat5e cable outside using the same hole.
Can anyone see any reason why I cant reuse a virgin phone socket with a different face plate?? Theres no voltage running through a phone cable is there?
