I see there is to be a 'Collectors' 4-disc release of Return of the the King (with the 'collectible item'), but haven't seen a 'Directors' 4-disc release advertised (without the 'collectible item'). Will there be one?

I believe there are some links in the LOTR section of the Forum.
The collectable is a model of the city under siege through out the film. Minas Tirith.

Looks nice, I might actually buy this edition as I have just gone with the "Standard" Extended Edition's before.

I thought they might have used "Shelob" as the model...

Spoke to a guy from EV on Sunday and he confirmed that Shelob was to have been the model, but one of the big supermarket chains (Asda? Tesco? - can't remember) refused outright to stock it.

I remember last year there was that incident where the bags of grapes in one of the supermarket chains had Black Widow spiders in them. Wonder if they're still smarting from that?

He said that the Minas Tirth model is absolutely stunning though. Best of the three apparently.

You can pre-order the Standard 4 Disc Edition from DVDSoon for $37.98 which works out at about £15.85 so it is under the customs limit.

The 4 disc edition has been available to pre-order for months from the US sites, so I'm sure it will be released over here.

Its a pitty about not having Shelob as the model but i would like to see the Minas Tirith model.
