Return an HD3650 for an HD3850?

Yesterday I ordered a 256MB Sapphire HD3650 PCI-E2.0 1000MHz GDDR GPU 725MHz 120 Streams 2xDual Link DVI-I/HDTV HDCP Ready. It's now showing as dispatched, so I'm assuming it's too late to amend.

Scan now have 256MB PowerColor HD 3850 PCI-E 2.0 (x16), 1656 MHz, GDDR3, GPU 668 MHz, 320 Streams, 2 x DVI-I on offer, "Today Only".

Is the HD3850 a better card? Enough for me to return the HD3650? The PC will be used for the odd game on a 24" monitor, but will mainly be used for HD video/photo editing.

Even taking into account the cost of returning the HD3650, the current saving on the HD3850 would make it worth it.

yes defo the HD3850 is a better card i would return it if you can
yes it is a better card but what's the price difference, and what games are you likely to be playing on it? the HD3650 should be easily capable of handling your video/photo editing needs, yes the HD3850 will be better but not necessarily worth the extra cost.

The card itself is just over £10 more. Assuming it's going to cost me £5 to return the 3650, it'll cost about £15 more to 'upgrade'.

I've never returned anything to Scan before, do they charge a re-stocking fee?

May be worth the 'upgrade' cost then. I would say though that sapphire are a well known brand but i've not heard of PowerColor (i'm guessing american by the way they spell colour :) ) so the sapphire is more likely to be reliable. If you play any recent games you will def see the benefit with the HD3850. Out of curiosity how much is the 3850 selling for? I recently bought an HD3870 XT for £104 (which i thought was a bargain at the time) is it around that mark?

£65 "Today Only" special price. :smashin:

I've ordered it and Scan have already given me an RMA for the 3650, which won't be delivered until tomorrow. :)

The only downside is the new GPU won't come until Monday, so all the other stuff that's coming with the 3650 tomorrow (motherboard, CPU, RAM) will be sat waiting all weekend. :(

I now find my self wondering whether I should take advantage of the reduced price and order a second. :suicide: Tell me it's not worth it, please? :lease:

Hmm. Having read this, I'm not sure it's worth it, considering my current needs. Even for a relatively low £65. I think I'll sleep on it... :boring:

The link you gave shows the card at £93 incl VAT, where did you see it at £65?

I refer the honourable gentleman to my post #7.

Assuming this is the right card, the manufacturer's website lists the HDMI adapter and Crossfire adapter as optional extras.

However, the specifications page implies they're bundled.

I'll be able to tell you for sure on Monday. :smashin:

Got mine this morning,9.00am well done Scan. The card came with HDMI and VGA adapter, well chuffed. Also the card is quiet so far. I cannot hear it above my sky HD box. So for the money 5 stars.. Text still fuzzy on my plasma though.:thumbsdow

The RADEON HD3850 OC 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E 2XDVI ZERO THERM IN by Club3D which is an overclocked card costs £66.41 inc. VAT at Lambdatek so that was not all that great a deal. This is not a short term deal either and still 15 in stock.

http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=B92050

or how about a Sapphire HD 3850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E DUAL-DVI HDTV L-RETAIL for £81.36?
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=B101497

But I wanted a quiet 512MB so I got the Gigabyte GV-RX385512H Graphics Card ATI Radeon 512MB card which was £83 while I was preparing my order but £88 by the time I checked out :( A very quiet card and very overclockable, even though the default memory clock it lower than standard, it does go higher than many other makes.
It was around £119+ everywhere else so still very good even at £88.

There are more than one different listings for many cards with different prices and the prices can and do change all the time. I got myself a Q9450 CPU as well for £206 :D

I don't work there either but I do love a bargain.
