response times - how important really?

How important are response times really? eg 16ms should be enough for 60HZ update.


I'm looking at a JVC 37" which quotes a 12ms response time. I'm also looking at the Toshiba 37" W58, but they don't say what the response time is (anyone know?)

But other panels have 8ms. Just how much difference does it really make, and have manufacturers started using common measurements yet?

Response times are critical for LCDs but the question is how do you measure them. The quoted figures are as useful as an ashtray on a motor bike.
