    Hi All

    Newbie question here.

Is the resolution on Sharp 22" models, which is claimed to be (845 x 480 x 3) better / the same than other 17"-23" sets which don't have the x 3 but just claim their resolution is 1366 x 768 or 1280 x 768? If the 3x does make the Aquos screens better resolutions, what is the technical basis of the 3x???

Clearly if you do 845 x 480 x 3, that equals 1,216,800 which is greater than the non 3x resolutions which equal 983,040 / 1,049,088.

I am looking to get the best value 19-22" and it is currently between the Phillips 23PF9945, JVC LT-23E31 (both 1280 x 768), the Sharp Aquos LC22SV2E (hence the question above) and the iiyama prolite c480T (1280 x 1024!!!).

Any further advice on which of these to choose for bedroom TV and DVD applications would also be much appreciated:)

    Thanks a lot

Regardless of how they are quoted, they are all "x3" - meaning the three primary colours.

Sharp Aquos 22 has a resolution of 848x480. Don't be misled by the x3.

Thanks - I won't be fooled now. I still don't understand why the other LCD makers don't multiply their pixel count by three.

Sharp says it has a 1.2 megapixel resolution because of the 3 x, but the LCD players who have a 1280 x 768 say they only have a 900k resolution, when they could do the same as Sharp and multiply it by 3!

Let's just say some are more honest and open than others. (i.e. they don't try to mislead or confuse). Read from that what you will :)
