    Hi guys,

Can any of you confirm for me whether R1 Resident Evil is Region Coding Enhanced or not?
CDWOW and PLAY and FUTURE ENT all have it down as such, but I know they are not always accurate.

I am pretty sure that it isn't but I just wanted to check before I bought it.

    Cheers!

Aren't Pathe distributing the film in the UK? In theory, if true, then it shouldn't be as Columbia don't RCE discs that they only distribute in one region.
I've ordered it on this basis and I can't play RCE discs so I can let you know unless someone else does first.

    I got my Disc today!

I thought the film was good myself, not the best film ever, but the best Game to Movie film definately!

I thought that the story was true to the games. It was very well done! Soundtrack was good too!

The 2 disc resident evil hasnt got a release date yet - The info about deleted scenes/ ending i read about in an interview with Anderson. Also dvdfile have this bit posted....
Last but not least, Columbia will also release a new 2-disc special edition of the videogame horror flick Resident Evil, a single-disc version of which streets on 7/30. Specs and exact street date are not yet available, but stay tuned...

My copy of Resident Evil turned up yesterday from Futurenet, no problems with RCE but, in my opinion, what a drag of a movie. Won't be digging it out of the back of the cupboard for a long, long while !!!

I received mine also yesterday from Future.

I think this film was quite good! Better than expected. Whilst not better than say lordof the Rings, its still an enjoyable 2 hours!

Definately the best Game to Movie film!

Resident Evil, was a classic example of a failed oppurtunity. In trying to please both mainstream audiences, pre-teens and gorehounds you have an end product that is glossy, slick, hollow, and conspicuously lacking in hardcore gore.

The film peaked at the lasers sequence and Ms Jovichwhatsherface was the only saving virtue as she is very pleasing to the eye. Still a film cannot survive by aesthetic virtues of it's female lead alone.

If there is any truth in a more violent unrated directors cut, then I hold out to that, as the theatrical version is just like a music video with a little more violence.

    Good soundtrack though!

OK, maybe not 'ever', but this film was absolutely appalling, a real stinker. Only buy this IMHO if you have already seen the film and liked it (for some bizarre reason). Terrible script, terrible zombies, no story, worse acting.....I could go on. :(

What a great film! Really enjoyed it.
Pretty close to the games overall.
Way better than I was led to believe.
    Very enjoyable.

If you like your horror in the glossy Hollywood vein, ie, House on Haunted Hill style, you'll like this.

I have no shame in saying it was good.:)

    I like Zombies.
I like jumpy things that kill you.
    I like cheap horror.

So there you go, no oscars to be handed out, but so what, there's plenty of munching.:D

I was hoping to order Resident Evil and like others I wasn't sure if the disc was RCE encoded. I emailed both Future Entertainment and Play who have the disc listed as RCE.

Future Entertainment stated that they could not definatly say one way or another. Not much help! Play stated that the title was RCE encoded.

I've noticed that in general that many web retailers are just listing all Columbia Tri-star and many Warner discs as RCE, when many don't have the encoding. For people with players like my self which don't play the discs it's impossible to know one way or another.

As regards to Resident Evil I came accross this thread after making the initial enquiries and it seems as though the retailers ahave got it wrong again.

MR is a proper minger and yes she does look like a bloke has anyone noticed that she only has one "I'm really angry so I scowl all the damn time in every movie I'm in" facial expression?!

I won't comment on the soundtrack cos I don't like that nu-metal cobblers but I was very disappointed with Marilyn Manson's score just a bunch of loud guitars. I thought he'd get all creepy and weird. Leave it to Trent Razner for the sequel.

Just sat this Don't go expecting a lot more blood and guts from the new release when it comes out. There isn't any.

Did you have to trim or cut anything extensive to obtain the R-rating, and if so, will we see an uncut or unrated version of the film on video?

It's not like we shot a Verhoeven-style movie, where there is tons of gore and then we get an R-rating only after cutting it and cutting it. I always structured the movie to get the R-rating and not the NC-17, so there is not a lot of gore in the movie. Pretty much what we shot ended up on the screen. There was a few bits, maybe, had a bit more gore, but not a substantial amount. So there's no plans to go back and do some sort of uncut version. Maybe I could shoot some more bloods and guts and brains? (laughs)

It's pretty much an open secret that a new, more extensive DVD release of Resident Evil is being worked on. Why are there going to be two versions?

I pushed all the way through shooting and post-production to get as much on the DVD as possible. I'm a big DVD fan and I really like DVDs loaded with material. And I really do think that the DVD that is being released now has got some good stuff on it. But what happened is, we actually pushed so much and came up with so much great stuff, that the logistics of it and getting it ready in time just weren't feasible.

The DVD coming out now was basically due to be "locked" only four weeks after the movie came out. And it was not a process I was heavily involved in before, so it was a real eye-opener for me. I was still mixing the movie, and suddenly I was getting calls saying, "You've got to decide on this, this, and this for the DVD. Today!"

So, there will be another edition that we're still currently working on with plenty more. But that will come a little later…and it's purely because we generated so much stuff. I really hate it when studios just release the movies and maybe the trailer, and then two months later you get the big special edition. I wish this first one could be as loaded as it could be, but it's still very good.
