£9.99 at Movie Tyme. Pretty good if you ask me. This includes all of the cover variations. Personally I went for Mr. Pink because Steve Buschemi is the man!!

Sadly for those of you who arent multi region, it is the us version (region 1)

There were quite a few complaints about the picture quality when this film was released as the picture was washed out and lacking in colour.

I sent my R1 SE back for a refund, the picture quality was that bad. As well as what's already been said, black level was terrible - the darkest it gets is a muddy charcoal grey. Been making do with the R2 since then and the picture quality is superb in comparison.

Still not sure about the R4 SE seeing as James refuses to provide a few screenshots :p - waiting for more reviews.

Anyway, this is the reason why many sites (not just Movietyme) have had the R1 SE cheap for quite some time. So buyer beware ;)

I found the picture quality and colours good. Personal preference I guess.

Not at all. Every reviewer on the planet says the same thing. You're just more tolerant of it ;) Stick the disk in again and go to one of the scenes which open with a name displayed on the screen. Should be white on black (proper black) - instead it's dirty white on muddy grey. If you saw the R2 transfer to compare, you'd see just how bad the R1 is.

Maybe I'm just used to my played-to-death VHS copy. Anyway, I'm happy with it.

I'm very pleased with the R1 SE. Much better than the laserdisc. The colours look fine to me and the black is black. I saw the R2 a while ago and was not blown away by it. I think you have to be really picky to not like this. Far more noticeable is the edge enhancement on the black suits.

Had a quick Google but couldn't find anything definitive on the R4 version - very very tempted to replace my R2 standard edition but the picture on that is really good, so I don't want to downgrade just for DTS and a few extras.

Come on people, first hand experiecnes please!

    Alex,

Have a search in DVD Talk on the forum. James started a thread there on the R4 SE and I posted a few quotes from a number of reviews. The reviewers were very positive about the R4 compared to the R1.
