    Hi,
To my mind, Pioneer DV-868 is still the best around. It' s one of the first players with HDMI but probably with the best price/quality rate. :)
It has HD scaler, DVD-audio, SACD etc. Moreover it plays the CDs quite good.

    Merry Xmas!

depends on the price you want to pay but also the marantz 7500/9500 and ofcourse Arcam DV79 and DV29 would be a good match. The Arcam's are even the best when it comes to audio.

Lets not forget the new Denons 1910, 2910 and 3910.

The 1910 only has DVi but you can still conect it to your display with a DVi-HDMI cable for picture.

If you want HDMI for sound you would need to get the 2910 or the 3910 which has both HDMI and DVI.

I beleive the 2910 is cheaper than the pioneer or the arcam.

Nolt much kit around that can handle the sound carried by HDMI v 1.1. Picture on both 2910 and 3910 is a noticeable improvement on the 1910. Im not so convinced of the difference between 2910 and 3910.

www.unbeatable.co.uk offers it for £699.99 whereas denon 2910 is only £474,99 but pioneer offers better sound quality, I suppose it's generally accepted.

Im a relative noob to all this but i have also just bought a tosh DLP set and im also in the market for a HDMI player.Just out of interest why has the Samsung HD945 not been mentioned?
Im currently running a Toshiba SD-330E through component and i have a modded xbox.My HD pack is on order for the xbox.My question really is will the dvd playback on the HD xbox be better than the tosh on component or will the sammy HD945 be better than both.If the quality isnt going to be a major improvement ide rather put the cash towards a little shuttle PC for my telly as Half Life 2 on a 46" screen is tops hehe.Thanx in advance for any input given.

phunt - it depends on your budget and your current speakers/amp.

Players like the Meridian, Arcam, Pioneer et al are expensive players. In my experience the extra money buys you a small increase in picture quality but much higher quality audio which you will appreciate through those expensive speakers. If you have a more modest setup look at the lower end decks.

The cheapy Samsung 945 will blow your old player away in HDMI mode or component, if you have a good set of cables.I had a look around and the Samsung was the best player to my eyes out of the low end Denon and Panny decks. The expensive Arcam was not in the equation.

If you could afford it i would go for the Denon 2910 and feed the DLP set a 720p upscaled image via HDMI. Its a good comprimise but i *think* you will need a dvi>hdmi adapter.
