Very good film, very stylish and one of the best uses of surround sound you'll find - the 5.1 mix is very aggresive and superbly used. The style is very unique utilising all sorts of quick cuts, fast edits, slow motion etc.. The film? It packs a punch thats for sure - 9/10 is very enjoyable with the final 1/10 being shocking to say the least.....

Well worth a look mate - a film that definitely leaves a mark after you've watched.

    Hi,

I agree with Tee. The film is superb, although not quite as explicit and vile as some people might have you believe.

The picture and audio are very good, especially for an R2 release, and the extras are certainly interesting.

Defintely worth a purchase, and a unique alternative to "Trainspotting"!

I agree, Requiem For A Dream is an excellent movie. The acting alone is sensational - particularly Ellen Burstyns performance.
The dvd is also very good with a good selection of exras.

You could do a lot worse than this minor masterpiece by Aronofsky!

Long time no bump for this thread....
Watched this last night, I was severely impressed, fantastic shooting, the whole style of the film makes it greater than the sum of the parts, and I don't think anyone's gonna want to do hard-drugs after this movie. It was so realistic as to be disturbing, and the expirience of drugs was translated very well. But I couldn't get used to Jared Leto without his blonde Fight Club locks:D

About the best cinematic study of the many faces of human addiction I've ever seen.

A great film and one of the select few that actually makes you think.

Guys, make sure you get the soundtrack to Requiem as well, and the soundtrack to Pi.
Both are composed by Clint Mansell (of the brilliant PWEI     ).

I'd say Requiem soundtrack is more 'pleasant'. It has more orchestration, and the Kronos Quartet add that little extra.

Also just noticed Requiem For A Dream:Remixed as an Import on Amazon.....looks interesting.

Here's hoping for a Poppies reunion in the same vein as the Stuffies and Neds and Inspirals.

    Cool as F***:D

    Pi was far better IMO.

I found requiem for a dream to be an over the top version of Pi, with a far less interesting storyline. The film was ok, but was designed to shock........ I found it hard to sit through, although I only did so to get to the end to see the what finally happened. It was pretty grating with the constant repetition.

It is worth a watch, but I would definately suggest renting it rather than buying it.
