    Hi All
    I need some help.
I bought my current surround system back in 1993, so you can imagine it's time to upgrade to digital.

However, I'm hoping I can keep my speakers which are:

L/R: KEF Reference 103/4 floor standers (impedance 4 ohms)
Centre: KEF Model 100 (imp. 6 ohms)
Surrounds: KEF Model 70S (imp. 6 ohms)

I have an extra pair of the 70S's for the additional surround channel/s.

My current amp is a Yamaha DSP 1070, at the time it was the top of the range, but compared to a friends Denon, I've always found the sound too soft for a/v, but very good for stereo music.

I'm looking for an amp costing below £1000 which will drive these speakers adequately and have the latest digital surround formats. Thanks for your help and advice in advance.

loads that will fit your needs from Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony, Marantz + more you'll not get a definitive answer here as each has it's supporters and detractors. Find a few dealers and have a chat with them - Sevenoaks and Audio Excellence have always been helpful. Get it down to a shortlist, use the search funtion (top right) to find all the waffle we've spouted in the past on the bits of kit you're interested in & get a demo & if poss buy on approval to make sure you're happy.

To get you going - I'm looking at the Onkyo 701 but I might wait until I can afford a bit more for the Rotel RSP1066

Definately demo the Rotel RSP 1055 reciever. It may be a little outside your budget but it's the best thing I have heard under 2 grand.

Try and check out the NAD T762 it will surely drive your speakers with Ease, lots of decoding, connectivity and great internal AMps.

but as always have a listen and let your ears do the work for you!
