For anyone who might be interested and dismayed to find out that the SCART input is not RGB compatible, here's a reply I got from Pioneer....

"The DV717 does not have RGB because it is a very early machine (first generation) .When it came out ,no one really use RGB and there were very few Tv's (except Sony) that would take a RGB signal. It can't be modified
because the electronics to produce an RGB picture are not in side the
    machine ,sorry"

Yet I have two ten year old TVs (Pan and Philips) which both have RGB SCARTs.

Maybe Pioneer haven't heard of Games Consoles which Pan and Philips obviously had.

Even when the DV717 came out, surely a little forward thinking from Pioneer wouldn't of gone a miss. Digital TV was just around the corner and certainly well known about at the time.

Still a good player though mate.

I personally think that manufacturers are 12 - 18 months ahead of the game anyway. Inbuilt obsolesence helps tick the market along.

It's the same (for example) with component in/out now. How many people bought stuff 12 months ago to be told that there is yet 'another' option open to them? Best go buy the new toy, again!

Wonder what's next thzt would really improve the pic/sound that we'll realy need?

    Thanks GS.

It is what i'm looking for, but a bit on the price side 69.99 + 20 postage.

I'll look around for somewhere more local now that I know it can be done.

    Cheers
