Need a new compact camera....

Been looking at the following:

Minolta Dimage X1 - Seems slow and pic quality not upto it
Nikon S3 - not the best picture quality
Canon Ixus 800 IS - can't find anywhere thats got one, plus might be a little over my budget unless I can pick one up cheap.

Any other suggestions / comments about these ones.

Am in the same boat, but just want to replace my Xt [give it to the Mrs;) ]

Posted asking about views on the Kodak V570.....no replies yet.

So will keep an eye out on this thread for tips/advice - was thinkin of maybe sticking with Minolta and the X1 as seems cheap at £180 ish, but am intrigued by the wide angle capabilities of the Kodak.

x1 is a horrible camera to use
Nikon s3 is to be replaced any day now (can tremember the new model names right now but the look swish

Ixus 800 will be expensive and as far as i am aware hasnt been released yet.

Dimage X1 - After reading reviews... came to same conclusion

Ixus 800 - thought it might be expensive :(

Interesting info on the Nikon..... have been 'researching' and couldn't find any info or piccies of the replacement to the S3.... can you remember where you saw it or the model name....?? any links??

Nikon S5 & S6 - look nice! - have to hunt down a proper review:smashin:

Cheeersss.....)

Seeem like there is a partial review on Steve Digicam site.... awaiting the conclusion and sample pics.

Googled the price and compared to the S3 (£185); the S5 is £60 more expensive and the S6 is £100 more expensive :( :( :( will await the reviews and see if it;s worth the extra...

Any users of the S3? views? seems the cheapest...

Only diff the 6 has over 5 is wi-fi - nice idea, but no way i'd pay £40 extra [than S5] !!:thumbsdow

I have and use the X1, I do not understand the comments about the camera.
The image quality is very good with plenty of detail available from its 8Mp CCD. The other cameras I have are a Konica Minolta A200 and a Sony T3, the X1 pictures are almost as good as the A200 and far better than the Sony T3.
The X1 has anti-shake, which in my opinion is really important for ANY camera and especially for a camera without a viewfinder. The LCD is rather low resolution, but quite usable, and it is possible to increase the screen brightness without going into menus, as it is possible to change 2 of:
exposure mode / exposure compensation / white balance / ISO using the up/down & left/right keys of the controller - I use exposure mode and exposure compensation. Movie mode is 640x480 30fps, which is about as good as it gets for a still camera, and you can zoom whilst recording.
All in all a good camera, especially for the price.

Cheers for the input their... i had just about discounted that camera based on reviews. All reviews stated:
That the shutter speed was slow (with kids that important as they just can't hold a pose :) )
The camera overexposed piccies outside (too much glare on end results)
Lastly was not very good indoors..

How much did you pick up your camera for? (Price could change my mind:) )

bellso... your right.... also S6 seems to have a slightly bigger screen but that again doesn't warrant extra £40-£50 quids.

The shutter speed problem was fixed by a firmware update, unfortunately after most of the reviews had been done.

click on 'DiMAGE X1 firmware update'.

Just in case you did not know, Konica Minolta no longer makes digital cameras. I paid £180 for mine, and that is the same price as quoted on PriceRunner.
