Heard a rumour that Arcam will be releasing a replacement for the AVR300 with HDMI switching. Any one else heard this?

Not a direct replacement for the AVR300, but there is the AVP700/P1000 combination which offers HDMI switching recently out. Plus the new FMJ AV9 on the way with HDMI switching also. Do you mean you've heard of another amp with HDMI switching?

That they will at some point is almost certain. The real question is when, and that appears to be totally speculative now.

I hope they wait until they can at least do HDMI 1.2 with full audio processing (they need to accept multichannel PCM over HDMI). HDMI 1.3 would of course be even better, but that would mean an even longer wait.

Even then, HDMI has proven itself to be a less than ideal communcation method for audio information with very high jitter levels.

Comparative picture quality tests on my Panasonic plasma proved that HDMI was far from proven with video as well :D

I think this says more about Panasonic DVI/HDMI cards than the HDMI interface itself (or the DV79/29), but it does highlight the point that just because it's digital, doesn't mean it is going to be better.

    Regards,
    Ian

Yes, I for one was dissapointed when I found out that the HDMI implementation on the AV9/AV8+ would not include audio decoding. That is until last week, when I read a damning review of the multi-channel HDMI performance of the latest Denon mega DVD/Amp combo in a US hifi mag.
