1) Go into the 'Locked Channels' section of the 'Settings' Menu. You will need the PIN for this bit so the kiddies shouldn't be able to do it.
2) Move down to the movie channels and lock the channel and then unlock it again.
3) Do this for each of the required channels.
You should now be able to switch between the movie channels without a PIN as if they were any other channel. This is how the system should work for us adults that don't have kiddies around.

working 100%

thanks for the info... the red button/PIN thing is REALLY annoying

Thanks a lot, much better!

I've just set Transporter 2 to be recorded

Also, seems to be some much better quality movies available now, perhaps the movie channel shake-up was worthwhile!

Seems like the sky movie channels act just like the normal ones now with pause, Info etc. (as has been posted elsewhere of course)

Great stuff:thumbsup: I wonder if Virgin will decide to inform all their customers about this. There must be thousands of people who are p***ed off about pin protection?

It is more likely a bug! Hopefully they wont fix it in a future update :)

Thanks a lot for this OneTrouble - this means I can now once again set movies to record on my MCE2005 system, excellent!!!

I have posted these instructions on the Media Center forum as well, as others had the same issue as me.

Bad news, if you put the box into standby it loses the settings and you have to put the pin in again when switching to the movie channels.

Not quite back to square one though.
It seems that the movie channels are now using the normal parental lock method and not the red button pin.

At least we wont get the red button screen problems anymore and they still have the pause, info etc.

When I watch a recording which started after 9pm (or finished after 9pm, not sure which yet), it asks me for my pin code. Even ITV. Is there a way of stopping this? There are no kids in my house and it's a pain... This is on a V+ box.

ALan

Yes, you need to go in to the settings and change the parental control settings. I think Cert 18 is the lowest setting.

I think anything recorded before doing the pin bypass technique that had a pin protection on it will still have it. I noticed episodes of House and even X-Factor that I recorded for the missus had pin protection on the episodes I had on my v drive.

Instead of just using the bypass technique described at the start of this thread on only the movie channels why not add ALL of the channels that you watch, even BBC1, ITV etc. to the locked list and then unlock them. By my reckoning that should banish the PIN request from any future recordings on any channel.

It's worth a try...

I thought the pin request for the movie channels was a totally different thing and not what you are experiencing.
Have you turned off the pin protection for recorded programs in the set up menu?
My V+ box has never asked me for a pin on any recordings or on any programs other than the movie channels and thats the red button problem.

I concur... I'm never asked for a pin to view any of my recordings. The option to disable pins for recordings is there somewhere!

Had a thought recently that this movie channel pin "work around" is probably an undocumented feature (read that as beneficial fault) in the V+. The movie channels aren't listed as locked even though a pin is requested and its by locking and unlocking that the pin gets disabled.

Does this work around cause the V+ to be violating Ofcom's regulations..? If so, we need to be very quiet about it!!!

I'm all for these sort of regulations because it may mean that one day soon Ofcom are convinced enough that little kiddies are safe from harcore... uh... specialist interest entertainment broadcast to the UK :D

Well as i reported i am still asked for my pin number when i watch the movie channels but its the normal pin screen, not the red button one any more. and thats on both my V+ box and STD one.
Can see anyway of permanently turning it off for the movie channels without keeping the box on all the time.

i doubt it very much,as it was one of the terms that sky wanted.

Sky wanted to show 18 rated films in the daytime so it was ofcom who brought the pin facility in not sky or virgin.;)
