I have a B&O Beosound Century (as well as an old B&O TV and Video) the remote for the TV and video will not operate the beosound as the TV and video are too old. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced remote that will control B&O kit, apart from the B&O Beo4 remote? I would really rather not have to pay £150 for the B&O remote.

    Hi Andrew,

All bang olufsen equipment/remotes operate on a higher frequency than other A/V equipment so the short answere to your question is no, you have to buy a bang olufsen remote.

The Beo 4 is really a stunning remote as it will allow you to control all your audio and visual equipment with the one remote. so long as they are bang olufsen equipment;) :)

but the beo 4 is the better option.

    cheers

There are universal remotes that will operate at the higher freq that B&O use.

The Philips SBC RU885, for instance. Just looked at the manual on their website, which includes codes for B&O.

It can be bought for about £40 from Argos.

    hi simon/andrew

the philips remote you refer to will only have limited functions on the b+o tv/vcr plus the beosound.

after reading your post again it appears you do have the old b+o remote for the tv but it wont operate the beosound because they changed their remotes a number of years ago. it may be possible that your local bang olufsen dealer can program/update your old remote.

however your best bet is to get the beo 4 the extra £90 on it over the philips remote simon refers to will be well worth it asit will give you lots more potential.

if your dvd is non b+o you can get a chip from www.codefree.dk that will allow you to control the dvd via the beo 4 or alternatively. if you check out my thread on transmittors and receivers in this forum(i hope somebody takes the time to explain this in laymans terms)you will also see that it is possible to fully integrate all your a/v plus lighting with this and control everything via the beo 4 remote. also the beo 4 can control your sky set top box via a ir receiver gadget which you can purchase from your bang olufsen dealer

all bang olufsen stuff is designed to link in with each other so that you can access your audio/visual sources located in a different room via a beo link loudspeaker and the beo 4 remote.

i hope this makes sense to you.

i am in the middle of trying to integrate everything myself so that i can control all my A/V plus lighting via the beo 4 remote.

    cheers
    :)

    Thanks for the advice gents.

The B+O stuff is only used in the kichen and the century did not come with a remote. Brendan is right that the TV and Video are so old that the B+O remote supplied with those will not work with the Century. As my main AV system is now built around Arcam equipment (with a Loewe TV) I use the Arcam remote to control everything in the main room so I am only looking for a cheap remote to use with the Century.

By the way I am looking at how to use the Arcam (CR80 I think) remote to control X10 home automation products, such as lights etc, in the same way that Brendan is with his Beo4. So if anyone knows how to programme the Arcam remote for X10 I would be interested.

    hi andrew

even the high powered learning remotes from philips, marantz, sony have little success learning b+o codes, i think however i seen some codes for your item on www.remotecentral.com might be worth checking out if you have a learning remote

you might be looking at using the wrong remote for this, i cut and pasted this article from somewhere i cant remember to send to my brother who also has a lowe tv. it might even be on the lowe website have a read and see what you think...

Wireless Home Lighting Control - The first Home Automation Offering from Loewe

Transforming your living room into an atmospheric movie theatre is now just the touch of a button away. With just one remote control you can start the movie, dim the lights and let the razor sharp images from the Loewe widescreen TV take over.

All you need is a Loewe MediaPlus TV and the Loewe Wireless Home Lighting Control Starter Pack OR the Loewe RC1 remote control with individual receiver switches. Either way, Loewe Wireless Home Lighting Control is simple to install, flexible, and extremely easy to use - there's no need for additional wiring, it's simply plug and play.

Taking control through your Loewe TV

Loewe's MediaPlus technology makes every Loewe TV flexible, future-proof, and individual. The modular expandable chassis allows the TV to be upgraded to incorporate Dolby Digital surround sound, wireless audio and many more features.

Now, with Loewe Wireless Home Lighting Control, lights can also be integrated and controlled through a Loewe TV. After the simple installation, individual commands can be selected through the TV's intuitive menu system, or users can preset buttons on the remote control with specific functions. For example, all lights could be switched on or off at the touch of one button, or set to a preset dimmed level by pushing another. Lighting scenes can also be programmed to initiate at certain times.

Because Loewe Lighting Control works in standby mode, the TV doesn't even need to be switched on. Lighting can also be set up to come on at selected times of the day to give the house that 'lived in' look when the occupants are away.

The starter pack includes a wireless receiver that plugs straight into the back of a Loewe TV and two dimmer / on-off switches. Each dimmer can be used to control a single light or a group of lights - to control more than two sets of lights additional switches are available separately.

Mobile control with the Loewe RC1 remote

RC1 is an intelligent, bi-directional remote that operates all Loewe home entertainment components and even learns the codes of many other manufacturers products. With Wireless Home Lighting control it becomes the centre of your intelligent home

Acting as the transmitter itself, Loewe intelligent RC1 remote control can also be programmed with lighting scenes and commands, offering a mobile alternative to control through the TV. Purchase and install as many separate dimmer switches as required and control lighting wherever you go in the house.

    Looking to the future...

Automation through the TV remote doesn't stop at lighting. Working with automation specialists Gira, Loewe is continuously developing the role of the TV and remote control by integrating and controlling electrical devices throughout the home, such as climate control, blinds, projectors and plasma lifts.

The Harmony H655 can be used with B+O but codes need to be downloaded not learnt, its the learnig that is the issue not the transmitting
