My set up consists of a Belkin wireless router plugged directly to my NTL cable modem feeding a HTPC via ethernet cable and a laptop via a wirless card.

I can transfer files between the two PC's but would like a remote desk top using the laptop. I've tried Windows XP remote and PCanywhere but I cannot get the software to recognise the computer I'm trying to control remotely.

Is it software or the router setting?

    Any suggestions

Could be an account issue, to use RDP you need a user account on the pc that you trying to log on to exactly the same as the one that your using and they must both have the same password.

It may be staing the obvious but I take it you have enbled "allow users to connect to this computor" on the machine your trying to log on. Its in my computer/properties/remote.

If both of these are correct it may be a firewall issue?
