Teletext reporting that remakes of The Wicker Man and The Omen are going into production:

    - Wicker Man starring Nic Cage (don't suppose it will be set in the UK!)

    - The Omen to be released 6th June next year (6.06.06.)

    Anyone got any more info?

    Scoop Feedback:

    The wicker man......

    Plot:
A remake of the 1973 cult film. A police officer investigates a missing person in an island community, which he learns is occupied by pagans looking to guarantee their next year is fruitful by sacrificing someone -- literally.

    Nicolas Cage (tentative)

    Neil LaBute

    Companies:
Saturn Films, Millennium Films, Equity, Emmett/Furla Films

    Status:
    Pre-Production

    Latest Rumors:
Word has it that the production, which is being developed through Nicolas Cage’s Saturn production company, will be moved from the British Isles to an island setting off the coast of North Carolina. While talking to the London Sunday Times, Universal’s veep of production, Lenny Kornberg, revealed that Nicolas Cage may play the part of the film’s investigating police officer, played in the original by Edward Woodward as a religious and celibate person. Kornberg added, “It will be a recreated version of the original. Cage will not be playing a puritanical or celibate Scottish policeman, but apart from that it won't be changed radically.”

    Inside Buzz:
The writer of the original film isn’t all that thrilled with the idea of remaking it, which Cinefantastique once called -- perhaps overzealously -- “The Citizen Kane of horror films.” While the original film is definitely good, quite a few folks aren’t even aware it exists, so remaking it really isn’t all that big a deal. Hardcore fans will still be able to watch their original on DVD anyway.

    Release Date:
    TBD

March 4, 2005 (Variety)... Nicolas Cage is heading to Vancouver soon for the remake of the thriller THE WICKER MAN (1973). Neil LaBute adapted the screenplay and will also direct.

The story centers on a sheriff who investigates the disappearance of a young girl on a remote island off the coast of Maine. His hopes of unraveling the girl's disappearance become increasingly uncertain when he discovers evidence of pagan rituals.

Production is slated to begin on July 15, 2005.

    Hope it helps.
    Dave.

I just can't see a cult and classic like the wicker man being remade sucessfully. How can they possibly replace the haunting songs that went with it? Good luck to them, but some films are best left alone.

Now, a remake of the recent Thunderbirds with puppets!! How about that for an idea :rotfl: :rotfl:

That bedroom scene got me thinking so I did a quick check on IMDB to see who she is. :D

Hmmmm, she's no Elisha Cuthbert :thumbsdow

Frankly, I think i'd rather have Brit Ekland come back for the remake  :rotfl: :rotfl:

    OH NO!

Why can't they leave well alone?
(Because nobody can write decent original screenplays anymore)

A friend at work is a massive fan of The Wicker Man and also, coincidentally, can't stand anything with Nicolas Cage in it....so when he heard that the remake was happening he was alaramed...and then when he heards Mr Cage was starring...he was positivly disgusted :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So, just to cheer him up I did this quickly in Photoshop to pin up on his wall at work...he was NOT amused :D

This has "lousy idea" written all over it. One of the most distinctive features of The Wicker Man is its quirky Britishness.

    As for Nicholas Cage...
