hello I am new to this forum and have a question about a Volt B250.9 woofer
which I bought last week, it is used in the Rel Storm II subwoofer
I want to build a clone off this subwoofer and wil use a BK electronics BSBP200 plate amp , the enclosure has to 40 litres reflex loaded
as Ral uses the ARM loaded system, I want to know what dimensions the bss reflex pipe has to have
    who can help me out?

    The Subwoofer DIY Page:

    http://www.diysubwoofers.org/

You may find the information available here useful.

"ARM" may be rather more difficult to achieve. I would suggest that you find a matching conventional reflex enclosure for your driver as a starting point.

Always remember that many manufacturers (buying in bulk) can have drivers built for them to exact specs that the standard privately-bought driver may not offer.

If you are feeling adventurous you could try a bandpass subwoofer using your driver. A guidebook " The coupled Cavity Handbook" by David Purton is available from Falcon Acoustics for about a fiver.

a design at the side off wilmslow audio puts the B250.8 in a 40 ltr bassreflex enclosure, but the length and size off the pipe are not given

i was told a few years back that the rel drivers are modified for them by volt.normally by changes to mass of cone.chances are the storm measurements wont be right for the standard volt driver.

"ARM" which probably means Acoustic Resistive Matrix probably modifies the bass response of the driver to such an extent that copying REL box dimensions will be a useless exercise anyway. :thumbsdow

You need a normal reflex design using your Volt driver.

There's a free reflex box designer here:

and I don't think ARM was on the Storm either, it was for the better models only. There we two volt drivers that could be used on the Storm the standard one or the better one as fitted on the Stentor etc

The Stadium was/is the first in the Rel range to use ARM IIRC.

so with the 40 ltr enclosure and no ARM it must be possible to make a great sub, I also have a plate amp with a ajustable bassboost at 30 hz
with a range off 0 to +6db, phase can be ajusted between 0 and 270 degrees
the Volt woofer has B250.9 and is not the same as the B250.8
but they will have a lot in common
I also have the possibilty to measure the T&S parametres
maybe is that the way to go

Forget the REL clone and just make a great DIY sub.

the plan was building a sub with the Volt woofer, and together with the thommessen plate amp it has bcome a great sub
with a little boost at 30 hz it gives a deep and nice bass
some ajusting to the phase made also a difference and so far I 'mhappy with the results
I have put the sub on a marble plate and this was also a big difference
the crossover is set at 40 hz, with the front speakers using a scanspeak
sliced paper woofer going down to 40 hz :)

after bying a rel storm I had the possibilty to compare the 2 subs side by side

the clone could reach even deeper down because off the bassboost
the 2 drivers are both B250.9 Volt woofers, the leght off the reflx port is about 51 cm and the internal volume 38,8 litres
the DIY enclosure has the same dimensions

Make a meaningful sentence using the words:

Dead, over, body & my.

I think we're drifting from the subject. ;)
