Opinions needed... how much improvement from the Storm I to Storm III?

Worth paying £480 for a second hand Storm I?

    Cheers!

I've only owned the Storm III out of the of these two subs but I have picked up comments from others on these forums about both these subs.

It seem the difference is only slight. With the Storm III having more power but the difference it makes is minimal.

I would however say that £480 seems a bit over the odds unless its an absolutely immaculate example with hardly any use, I'd suggest around £400-450.

Power relates to loudness and not how low/deep it could go right?

As I enjoyed the Storm III's performance (when I demo-ed awhile back), am after a sub with similar lows (loudness is not a big issue as I live in an apartment). The Storm III RRP£1400 (but could get it brand new for around £1,200).

    Ah right your in Oz.

Well they Storm III retails over here at £800 for the standard finish and £900 for the veneers.

I'd go for the Storm I if I were you. There is little between the two. And the Storm is a competent subwoofer.

    I think you'd be pleased.

With regards to the power difference between the two... it only really makes a difference at higher volumes, where more power mean more control.

You really need somebody who has owned both for them to comment accurately.

I can say that the Storm I is good however.

Does the Storm I have both the high level and low level inputs and separate volume controls for each?

    Thanks.

I notice on the REL high level input cable that it has the wires black, red and yellow? Assume you get the + and - for the signal but never seen a yellow as well, where does it go...

    :)

Its goes to negative on the opposite speaker channel.

This is the grounding point basically, giving you a balanced input.

He's in Oz, there's a premium to pay over there!

But your right, if it was over here you'd be lucky to get £250-300 for an old sub like that.

Hey there... bought my second hand Storm!

Am really happy with it... still trying to adjust it properly so it would fit into my system... using Low Level connection at the moment, will High Level improves its performance much by going through the power amp?

Yeah... I know REL is cheaper in UK... am just looking for a second hand at the moment (Brand new pretty off my budget at the moment :-()

You total tube. Are you trying to blow up this guys amp or sub? The red cable goes to to the positive terminal of the right channel on the amp, the yellow cable goes to the positive terminal of the left channel and the black goes to either negative terminal, but not both.

If you need more specifics then download the REL St manual from the link below.

Monotone - I've got a Storm III, which I love.

I got it from Ian J, who I believe has owned both models (the I and the III). He said that he couldn't actually tell any difference between the two.

The III has more input options and a nicer finish, but sonically I don't think there's much in it!

You should try and setup your Storm with guidance from REL site the REL/Sumiko setup works great and also check the following thread for some more information which you may find useful nonetheless.
