    Hey all,

I have a dvd player that supports progressive scanning (PS). However it only supports ntsc for PS. Does region 3 class as ntsc also or will PS only work on region 1 discs?

    Cheers

    James :)

Region coding has nothing to do with the format in which the DVD is encoded. For example Region 2 includes Europe (most PAL) and Japan (NTSC). Thus when you buy discs you would need to look for NTSC format and not region coding!

Region 3 discs come from Hong Kong and the Far East. Phillipines, South Korea and Taiwan are all primarily NTSC. Hong Kong is PAL (although, never having been there, I cannot vouch for the reality of this). Whatever I would suggest North America is a better source for NTSC discs.

If you have a NTSC PS DVD player only then I would recommend upgrading!

FWIW, my R3 Hong Kong editions of Sky Captain... and I Robot are both NTSC. Can't speak for other titles.
