I am very tempted by the price of region 1 players- the Panasonic LA95 in particular I have seen for less than $600.
Is it possible to get them chipped to play region 2 software or pal software on +rw discs ?
any info would be much appreciated
    thanks

Probably depends on where you source the player from.

We have an older Panasonic DVD L50 which is R1, but NTSC only. We bought it in the US and subsequent enquiries have shown that the unit *only* does NTSC so playback of PAL discs is out of the question. The unit doesn't have the "bits" to support PAL playback apparently. Happily the PSU is multi-voltage so using it here (UK) or elsewhere is not a problem.

Of course in our case it's not really an issue, our only R2 software are some boxed sets of Buffy, everything else is R1.

I would say ask before you buy.

No a US NTSC unit cannot be converted into a PAL unit.

It will be only ever be able to play R1 & if you have it chipped R2 NTSC disks only ( R2 NTSC are few and far between).

I'm afraid it's not quite the bargain you were probably hoping it was for your purposes.
