    Hi ,

Just quick question, I've just got a new iBook with a dvd drive that cannont be made multi-region (toshiba 2120 combo drive) so I have to decide what region i should stick to for the iBook, either 1 or 2. I'm inclind towards r1, most of my DVD's are r1, but I am probably going to get a DVD writer/recorder in the future (for home video etc.). Do you know if these recorders are region coded or are they r0?

What should I do? (besides replacing my new toy - I thought about it...)

    marc :)

    They are region coded.

They can be hacked with firmware upgrades.

I am a bit happier now - just found on the firmware site that my drive has been hacked. :D

How does it work with recorders? can you hack the drive to be r0 or do you have to switch regions all the time? what region is the disk that's just been written? Say i buy a recorder here will the firmaware make it r1 if I want?

As long as you get a standard DVD-R for General recorder you'll be fine as all disks written will be non regionalized. If you get a DVD-R for Authoring drive you can choose which region to write for (or leave it as reg 0).

Unless you plan on spending thousands you'll get a for General drive though, and there wont be a problem - except for perhaps playing different region disks from it.
