Region 7

    Does anybody has a clear idea what region 7 for DVDS is reserved for, I asked around and nobody seems to knows..

    I think its just a spare one, not used for anything at present.
    Maybe so the first lunar settlers can 'benefit' from regional coding :D

    Region 7 if I recollect is reseved for Airlines with inflight DVD facilities.

    Possibly Cruise Liners as well.

    "Regions 1 through 6 were defined in the original DVD-Video specification. Region 7 is currently undefined. Region 8 was added in 1999 for special venues, such as airplanes."
    Taken from a microsoft development website.
    Still doesn't give any clues as to why region 7 exists though...

    Here is the list as I know it. Again,it doesn't explain why Region 7 is reserved, or what it is reserved for....

    0 No Restriction
    1 USA, Canada and US Territories
    2 Europe, Middle East (including Egypt), South Africa and Japan
    3 South East Asia and East Asia (include Hong Kong)
    4 Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands and Caribbean
    5 Russian Federation, Africa (not Egypt, but also North Korea and Mongolia), India and Pakistan
    6 China
    7 Reserved
    8 Special International Venues. Planes, Cruise ships...

    Yes.

    As well I have e.g. one DVD which is coded for Region 2 to 6.
