Matt Brown takes a look at the 2 Disc Region 3 DVD release, Troy - is it a case of quantity over quality?

I was plesently surprised by Troy and thought Pitt was good in the lead. Bloom was awful but then his character wasn't exactly appealiing. Matt loves his bass so I'm not to concerned about his comments on the sound track. :)

I was very impressed with the women in this, Helen was stunning (I'm not normally partial to blondes) and Pitt's squeeze was very cute.

The extras look very light-weight for a 2 disc release. I wonder if the R1/R2 picture/sound will be any better. R3s these days are typically carbon copies of the R1 no?

I'm going to pick this up at some point but I'll probably wait for the price to drop a bit.

Interesting to see the R3 has a 448k DD 5.1 soundtrack. The R4 release which has all the same extras etc Only has a 384k DD 5.1 soundtrack - wonder if the R2 will also get the lower quality soundtrack?

This seems to be quite common, no idea why. I'm also not sure why so many R2s have DTS when the R1 doesn't. It always used to be the otehr way around,

Helen was played by DIANE KRUGER an unknown German model. If you like her in TROY you just HAVE to see WICKER PARK. She is stunning in that.

Not sure about Hector's wife. Very skinny. Saffron Burrows ain't it?.....

Meh. Don't get me wrong, Saffron Burrows is nice but Diane Kruger was amazing (strangely enough most other pictures/movies I've seen she doesn't look great, I think she was required to gain aver a stone for Troy and it did her the world of good.)

Rose Byrne grew on me throughout the movie, getting cuter with each scene. A bit like Katie Holmes who beats them all for overall appeal :)

[Edit - I just looked up Wicker Park, it has both Rose and Diane, I'm going to have to see it now, even if it does look a bit pants!]

The R2 release isnt going to have much on the 2nd Disc either, probaley why the R1 isnt being released for a few more months, so they can get some decent extras together, will probaley hold off buying it until the R1 is out then make a decision.

regarding the ill-fitting music in the film that's picked up on in the review... I've read the entire original score was thrown out and Hans Zimmer was given just 2 weeks to come up with a new one. Two weeks for a new score for a near-3 hour film... sounds harsh, and it's no small wonder it doesn't seem to fit that well. I thought the same when saw it at the cinema

The lower bitrate of the PAL disc maybe due to the fact that the PAL transfer will take up more space on the disc (higher vertical resolution compared to NTSC).

Just double checked and the R3 edition is indeed recorded at 448kbps.
