    Hello,

Last month I bought a multiregion Toshiba sv34vb DVD/VCR unit. It works fine and i have played both region 1 and region 2 dvd's on it which have worked great.

However, at Christmas i recieved a dvd ("Mark & Lard's Football Nightmares" - region 2) which the tosh' won't play - displaying a 'disc error' message after failing to read it. The disc will play on another (pacific) dvd player.

I just don't understand it

Well, it could just be a 'marginal' pressing and depending on the DVD drive it may cause problems, some drives are more sensitive to 'slightly off' media than others.

While there are some R1 DVDs that won't play on multi-region players (ie. RCE-infested ones) there is no such crassness with R2 so AFAIK it's not possible to be a 'compatibility' problem. Certainly 'Disc Error' is not what you'd expect to see if the player was telling you it didn't want to play it due to region restrictions.

I'm not sure what you mean by "a 'marginal' pressing ".

Still makes no difference, I'll just have to watch it on somebody else's DVD player.

    Thanks.

Try to take it back for replacement/refund. It is obviously a badly pressed DVD.

Sorry to confuse .. by 'marginal' I mean it's badly pressed but not completely duff, as your experience on another machine shows. Some players are more tolerant of mis-pressed or mis-burned media than others.

It's defective so a refund is in order.

Do other R2 discs still play in said player? Else the unit might have locked itself to R1 ...
