i know that most region 1 dvds are superior in terms of extras and sound etc but some region 2 dvds are better (lord of the rings extended edition for example). does anyone know of a website or even a magazine that compares individual releases on their regional merits? i just got a multi-region dvd player and its difficult a lot of the time to decide which regional version to get
thanks for any help.

Hi Matt

Have you actually compared LOTR EE r1- to r2?

I have the region 1 EE and region 2 thearical and cant tell much difference but then I only have a small display.

I know theoretically PAL is higher res that NTSC but it often doesn't work out that way.

Since LOTR EE is so good I might even get the PAL version as well

cheers

hi mate

the region 2 version has more deleted scenes added in and apparently a better picture too. The region 2 version is a good 10 minutes longer. but other than that not much difference

Hang on...

Yoy have the R1 ext Edition and the standard R2 version AND you are now going to buy the R2 ext Edition

Why stop there, why not buy the R1 & R2 Coll Edition and complete the 'set' ;)

The region 2 version is not longer. The region 1 version is longer because of the differences between PAL and NTSC (4% PAL speedup). There are no additional scenes.

If anything, the extras on the R2 have had some swearing cut. R2 also has player-generated subtitles for the elvish talk.

The region 1 (not region2) film is longer by 10 mins due only to the speed of the PAL transfer.

There are no extra scenes in the region 2 version.

I was only interested in a comparison between the picture quality of r1 EE and r2 EE.

best DVD ever!
