Is there such a things as region 0 DVD's or are they pirate copies?
Yes Region 0 are simply non region coded so will play on any machine, however they can be encoded NTSC or PAL.
There are a few 'official' uncoded (or region 0, or All region) discs out there. They tend to be porn, documentaries and music. VERY few feature films are regionless (Barb Wire is an example that comes to mind).
As a rule, any movie from a major studio will be for one or more specific regions. Anything that isn't is a drugs-money funded rip off, in all probability.
Lots of legit hong kong movies are Region 0.
A few early Criterion discs are region 0 also I think.
Reason why I ask is someone has offered me region 0 films, they are classed as imports from Asia (in English), for a reasonable price (around £10) but I wouldn't be interested if they were pirate copies.
Does anyone have any views on imports from Asia?
What are the titles of some of these films?
If its Debbie does Dallas then I think you are ok but if its T3 or similar then they are most likely pirated.
As Nigel said, If they are major films/blockbusters etc then I would definitely think they are dodgy.
