Blew the dust off the D200 today and ventured out to darkest Greenock to see the QE2 (from a distance !!) and the Red Arrows do a display ...

Not shot an air display before but happy with a few of the shots - used the 300 mm end of the 70-300 f4.5/6 with continuous focus ...

Even though the weather wasn't good, the dark and sullen clouds gave a nice backdrop to the colours of the smoke trails and planes, especially when the odd ray of sun popped out to add that bit of punch ...

    Anyway link here: http://gallery.mac.com/jontheobald#100024&view=carousel&sel=0

Be grateful for any comments/hints/tips ... these are just lightly tweaked jpegs - I will work with the raw files over the next few days taking any comments in to account !!

    thanks

    Jon

Well, your .mac site doesn't work with my version of Safari. I haven't moved this machine to Tiger yet.

Any chance you could embed it?

Well they look like they might be good. It's impossible to tell as they are about 300px and have been compressed to death. It looks like you've may have taken some high quality shots however as they are they might aswell have been taken with a 0.1Mp phone camera which isn't doing them any justice at all.

[EDIT] Appears I was a tad hasty in my earlier judgment - just went back to the tab and the compression seems to have gone. They look very nice but they are still very very small.

They are a better size when clicked on it that first link you just posted. However they don't seem to load up to the "uncompressed" version they just stick all overly compressed. Only the first one I clicked lost its compression.

Hmm ... the new web gallery in iphoto 08 seems to downsize the images to 800 odd pixels from the 3000 pixels they are originally !!

Maybe this thumbnail link is better ?

some nice shots there would of been nice to see the red arrows and QE2 together in a pic.

I wondered why only one red arrow was practising today

The last shot over the harbour is great, makes a change form the usual shot we see. Very nice!
