My mum got rid of Sky TV although she still uses the box to watch the freeview channels. She's asked me about options for recording TV as the service is now unavailable on Sky.

What are the options? I need to educate her on the ways of iPlayer etc but I'm wondering if it's easiest to get whatever the cheapest Sky TV package is so she can use sky to record?

If not that, is there a box she could buy to record?

A bit of confusion, Freeview is viewed using a aerial not a satellite dish. The straight forward replacement is a Humax G2 Freesat+ box. Note a broadband connection is required for catch up services.

Cheapest option (12 months warranty) is from Humax direct.

HDR 1100S - Freesat - set top box
