I set the planner to record a film which has a news break in it and it only records the first part of the film! This happens mainly on Channel 5 but also on ITV as well. What's the point of having a planner to record a movie when I have to set it twice? You'd think that sky would recognise that it's the same movie. Has anyone else come across this problem with Sky+?

I think you are meant to do series link with films on C5.......sorry, re-phrase that.... if you do series link it works.

You're right, it should be working properly.

SKY have no say in how Five structure their EPG data.
SKY+ relies on the EPG and Five give the news/weather break (within a movie) an EPG slot which makes the movie into two parts. They supply a series link to allow the SKY+ to automatically record both parts, something new users always learn about the hard way:)

Thanks for the replies, I will try using the series link feature.

I prefer to do a manual recording in this situation. If you just record the movie and leave out the news you are quite likely to miss a bit of the movie.

    Hi Moz,

I've been caught out a few times on different channels with a new break. It's so maddening.

    Hi DaveP,

That makes sense, I will remember to do that in future; I would normally just record before and after the news. Nowadays I set the planner to record five minutes before the programme starts and continue for ten minutes after, I have so often missed the end previously. It can cause programme clashes when recording two different channels at the same time doing that overlap.
