    Just a quick question, please.
If I want to record some of my VHS tapes onto the HDD using my VCR (via the AV2/L1 input Scart) and following the instructions in the 530's pdf manual (p57), it says, set the input, recording mode etc and then press REC button.

Do I assume that this starts one's VCR automatically or do you have to press 'Play' on the VCR first before pressing REC on the DVD recorder or remote control?

Sorry to sound naive in these matters.

You have to press start on the vcr first. Well, you can press the 530 start first, but then you'll get whatever the VCR is sending to the 530 as a 'lead in'. Of course if it's showing a blank screen you'll get that for a second or so.
Don't forget to set the 530 recording input to VCR - then it attempts to equalise to VCR video characteristics.

Many thanks for your help. I thought that was/is the case but as it was not mentioned I thought that I must be missing something obvious!

    Most grateful.
