Ordinary Sky boxes do not receive Dolby 5.1 - I think you are getting confused with Dolby Surround, which can be received & recorded on any stereo device.

Some Sky "Premium Channel" movies are in Dolby 5.1, and they are recorded onto the Sky+ box in Dolby 5.1, and will play back in 5.1

Note that Sky Box Office movies are not broadcast in Dolby 5.1

Sky+ records movies in Dolby Digital 5.1 (if transmitted in DD - see EPG), and plays them back in the same format.

I could be wrong, but I am only aware of one Philips recorded that records in DD5.1, all others record in various versions of Dolby Surround and Stereo.

    Hope that helps

    Simon

You didn't mention DVD recorders :)

I don't know of any current DVD recorders that will record in 5.1

The Sky + box outputs 5.1 via an optical cable. Presumably a dvd recorder would have to have an optical input to record 5.1.

It seems the next generation machines may have this facility. Pro-logic surround still sounds good to my ears anyway.
