I am intending to buy my 1st Camcorder.
I intend to mount this at home and record home-life on a day-to-day basis.

I checked the Which-Report. This recommended the Sony DCR PC109E.

    Is this the best Camcorder?

a wee bit older now, the PC55 is proabably the best current equivalent. Nowt wrong with them, good easy quality.

If you're recording children make sure u record from their eye level rather than looking down all the time at them. The same applies to pets. Informal shooting (handheld) tends to work better in these situations but then again it depends on how steady your hold is.
