I have a Panasonic DMR E50 and I am trying to play DVD -R discs recorded on this machine back on Power DVD5 on a PC...but it doesn't work. Am I chasing a dead duck or is there a fix ? Any ideas anyone ?

There should be no problem but you will have to "finalise" the disc first.

What DVD drive do you have? Does it recognise the DVD in My computer?

I have a DVD drive (Liteon DVD ROM LTD163D) but I had problems getting Power DVD5 to read the drive (It initially kept coming up with no disc in drive E) I managed to get it to work eventually and have installed rpcde2.exe to bypass region coding plus DVD genie. Ordinary DVD's play. Could these progs be causing problems ? Would I be better off using some other means of bypassing region coding etc ? Perhaps I should start from scratch ?

The region thing shouldn't matter as the DVD-R's should have no region afaik.

Anyway, I use AnyDVD to make my R2 drive act like a region free one. A free program called DVD43 will do the same. No other software is needed and PowerDVD should just play the DVD.

You could try another DVD player program such as Media Player Classic (freeware).

:lease: After trying various suggestions this is the message I get when I try to play a DVD-R recorded on my panasonic machine when I try to play it on Power DVD 5.

    "DVD-Video playback graph building failed"

Any ideas as to why this won't work ?

check the manual of your recorder, that it has a DVD compatability mode like the Toshiba, it maybe recording a hybrid mpeg 2 format which is unplayable
