I am always striving for the best quality possible.

I already have a firewire equipped PC and I create DVD's from my DV camcorder tapes using Pinnacle Studio 8 and the results are satisfactory, but not great.

So the question is, will I get better results on a DVD recorder with firewire input. ??

Or would it be better to encode on my PC using CCE ??

You should either get better quality, or the same quality for less disc space on a PC, and have better control over editing.

The DVD recorders seem to have very good MPEG compression hardware, but its still limited by one pass (I assume) and by time.

I think I'm now not too worried if a DVD recorder doesn't have DV in anymore.
